Sue Veer’s story is one of conviction, compassion, and an unwavering belief that healthcare is not a privilege but a basic human right. As a visionary leader at Carolina Health Centers, she dedicated her career to ensuring that individuals and families could access the care they needed to live healthy, dignified lives regardless of income, geography, or circumstance.
Beginning in 2006, Sue served as President and CEO of Carolina Health Centers, bringing with her a depth of experience from private practice, hospital systems, and academic medicine. Yet what set her apart was not just her expertise... it was her heart for people. Sue understood the barriers her patients faced: distance, cost, stigma, and systemic inequities. She became a tireless advocate, elevating those challenges to state and national conversations and championing the role of community health centers as lifelines for underserved communities.
Her advocacy extended far beyond the walls of a clinic. From policy discussions to Congressional testimony, Sue used every platform available to fight for health equity and working to ensure that communities like those served by Carolina Health Centers were seen, heard, and prioritized.
The Sue Veer Foundation was established to carry that work forward. We want to continue breaking down barriers, expanding access, and investing in innovative solutions that bring care closer to those who need it most. Today, Sue's legacy lives on in every patient reached, every barrier removed, and every future leader inspired to continue the work she so passionately began.
